Get your painting license.
You paint houses, units and offices. In NSW, painting and decorating are two license classes, and one Certificate III covers both. We help you get it and apply.

- What NSW asks for
- Certificate III in Painting and Decorating (CPC30620), for both painting and decorating
What the license lets you do.
With your own license, you quote an outside repaint straight to the owner. The profit stays with you.
What it covers, on the regulator’s own pages
- Take outside painting and other home paint jobs over $5,000.
- Prepare and patch surfaces, then paint by brush, roller or spray.
- Hang wallpaper and paint murals, once you add the decorating class.

Questions people ask us.
Something else on your mind?
Ask us on WhatsAppDo I need a license to paint inside a house?
Not for a job that is only inside painting. Since 2015, NSW hasn’t asked for a license for that. If the painting is part of a renovation, the usual rules apply.
When do I need one, then?
For other home painting worth more than $5,000 in labour and materials, including GST, like a big outside repaint. The paint counts toward that total.
Are painting and decorating the same license?
No, they are two classes. Decorating covers wallpaper and murals. The same Certificate III covers both, so you can apply for one or both.
What does it cost, and how long does it take?
That depends on whether you need the full Certificate III or only some units. The free check gives you the full cost and a timeframe for your case.
Can you help painters outside NSW?
Yes. Each state has its own rules for painters. Tell us where you work and we’ll check them for you.
